 The New Kitchen Garden has provided an ideal opportunity to assess recycled plastic alternatives and compare them against traditional wooden raised beds. We are looking forward to seeing how these new recycled plastic raised beds fair over the next few years. So far the beds have proven to be robust and practical to construct. The RHS is committed to best environmental practice, and Marmax Ltd innovative approach to recycling HDPE plastic waste is commendable. RHS Garden Harlow Carr will continue to assess their performance.

Derbyshire County Council and its partners are gradually restoring the Chesterfield Canal in Derbyshire as a waterway for all and now manage a five mile section for the local community. Thanks to a small grant from the Viridor Credits Landfill Communities Fund and the support of the local angling club and community volunteers, we have now been able to provide 20 new platforms for fishing on the Canal. On other sections of the Canal we have used timber platforms, which are starting to show signs of wear after only a few years of use. They are a constant maintenance issue for our staff. For this new section of fishery we chose to use recycled plastic fishing platforms from Marmax Products Limited for the benefit they give in terms of durability and the need for little maintenance in the long term. This not only provides value for money, but also means our team are freed up to develop the Canal for the community in new ways. Within days of the platforms being installed they were being used by local anglers, and there have also been several successful angling competitions held over the summer along this stretch of the Canal.

St Aidan’s has enthusiastically embraced the national agenda in relation to healthy living. We have come to realise that our agenda is not simply the students but also the environment in which we live, learn and work. The benches epitomise an excellent model of recycling in action. Each time a student sits on one of these benches, the lesson of sustainability is reinforced and internalised. A great idea!

The boardwalk provides safe year round access and allows our visitors to enjoy the site in all conditions with minimum impact on the landscape. We’re looking forward to years of low maintenance use and enjoyment from the boardwalk.

The recycled plastic furniture needs no maintenance, arrives ready assembled and can be left to its own devices. The plastic will not react with any chemicals within the soil which might be present on the Moston site and is vandal proof. This is very important to us because we only have two full time members of staff to deal with the maintenance of our forty five sites and our local volunteers do not have to worry about it. We consider it to be ideal countryside furniture.

At Saint Michael’s Hospice, our patients are our first priority and value for money a close second - lets face it as a charity with little Government support, we have to make every penny count. Our patients love sitting in the fresh air on one of our two patios, but many are quite frail and need to rely on good solid furniture to support them. Your products are heavy and rigid - our patients can lean on them for support with confidence. In the past we have had to replace our cheap garden furniture every two years as a result of either discolouration or mechanical failure, but yours are built to last and after two years, with just the occasional jet-wash they are as good as new - not cheap, but a sound investment. Lastly of course the brown colour means they blend in well with our lovely Yorkshire Stone building, but unlike wood need no maintenance."

It was very important to our pupils, when making a choice for the outdoor eating area furniture, that we chose a product which was made from recycled materials which would look good and they would want to use.
